About Each Of These
Recently Restored Buildings:
Casa de Las Monjas
Los Cuatro Tulipanes has two apartments in Casa de Las
Monjas, which is located on the Central Avenue of Casco
Antiguo, in San Felipe, at house No. 3-15. The
block where Las Monjas is located exists since the
foundation of the new city of Panama, in the 17th
century. The present name "Las Monjas" (the Nuns)
relates to the convent that once stood on the location
were now the National Theatre is.
Casa de Las Monjas is situated between Plaza de la Independencia and the beautiful restored Palacio
National, which houses the National Theatre and the
Ministry of Justice. It is just one block away from the
promenade, with spectacular views of the skyline of the
City, and the ships waiting to enter the Canal.
Casa Paseo Las Bovedas
Los Cuatro Tulipanes has one apartment in Casa Paseo Las
Bovedas, located on First Street. Originally on this
location stood three buildings; one of the buildings
dates from 1930 while the other two were built
approximately between 1915 and 1917 and are both in
"Art Nouveau" style. The buildings were restored and connected
together in 1999. Right in front of the building are
steps leading to the original Paseo Las Bovedas
(Promenade of Vaults). Following this beautiful
promenade, as the young officers did in the old days,
you will come to the Plaza de Francia with the beautiful
French Embassy.
The apartment of Los Cuatro Tulipanes is located on the
top floor of Casa Las Bovedas, and from its balcony nice
views are offered down Avenida A and towards the Pacific
Ocean. Also one block away is the entrance to the small
beach. From the promenade spectacular views are offered
of the Bridge of the Americanas and of the Causeway
connecting the three islands Naos, Perico and Flamenco.
Casa Mendez
Casa Mendez is a beautiful two story building that dates
from the XIX century. The block where Casa Mendez is
located has existed since
1673, a few years after the foundation of the new City
of Panama, in San Felipe. The facade, however, judging
for the morphology of the openings and the balcony, was
remodeled around the year 1915.
The building has an excellent location, built in between
the Hotel Central, a future restoration project, and the
Church Felipe Neri, which is the oldest church of Casco
Antiguo and currently undergoing restoration. Across the
street is the Condo Callejon del Chicheme, and diagonal to the property is Casa Gongora.
