Day 3: Make your way on your private transfer back to the city to take your flight from Panama City to David. Take in the scenery as you make your way to your next location,
Los Quetzales Lodge & Spa. Tucked away in a highland cloud forest, Los Quetzales Lodge and Spa is the ideal place for those longing to escape from the hustle and bustle of modern living. Located at 6,800 feet above sea-level, the Lodge is situated within a private reserve in the Volcan Baru National Park, adjacent to the one million acre La Amistad International Biosphere Preserve.
Los Quetzales offers its guests two distinctive lodging choices: a 10-room riverside hotel complex in the picturesque town of Guadalupe, or one of the four fully equipped chalets located within the Volcan Baru National Park.
Day 4: Time to get in touch with nature. Take a
private Bird Watching Tour in Los Quetzales
Trail, where, depending on the time of year, you can see birds like the
Three-wattled Bellbird, Resplendent Quetzal, Wren Thrush, fiery throated Hummingbird and many more are living on this trail.
Day 5: Take an early morning private transfer and cross over the Continental Divide! Make your way to the coastal town of Almirante, where you’ll take a water taxi ride over to Isla Colon, the main island of the
Bocas del Toro Archipelago. The staff from
Punta Caracol will be awaiting to take you to their wonderful
eco-lodge.
Built over the Caribbean Sea in the famous Bocas del Toro region of Panama, along a mile long coral reefed coast, Punta Caracol is constructed using the traditional methods of the Archipelago. Each handsomely crafted cabin is built upon stilts which support a wooden frame over the water and covered by a palm leaf roof, an unforgettable habitat congruent with the native communities of the region. Natural building materials offered by the rich nature of the region were used: different kinds of native woods and plants, clays, leafs, bamboo, wild cane and others. The result is a warm, close-to-nature ambience that takes us back to our origins.
Day 6: Visit the most famous islet in Bocas del Toro,
Isla Pajaros, a National Bird Sanctuary. Situated just off the northern coast of Isla Colon, this island serves as a very important nesting
and resting site for several bird species that migrate between North and South America. The island itself is comprised of large rock faces and lush green landscape, with birds often clearly visible from the boat. At certain times of the year it is possible to see offspring. The island contains one large tunnel, which is often used for photographs depicting the island; one can snorkel through the tunnel. Enjoy the rest of the day at Star’s Beach were you will find sea stars all over the place, and then finish your tour with some bird watching in Changuinola Channel. Guide, transportation, and snorkeling gear included.
Day 7: Take a short flight from Bocas del Toro to Panama City. You will be transported to
Gamboa Rainforest Resort. Enjoy your last evening in Panama joining on a
Night Boat Safari tour. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the nocturnal sights and sounds of the waterfront. Luminescent pairs of eyes reveal scores of reptiles hunting after dark along the edges of the river and Gatun Lake. Two protected species, the crocodile and the caiman, populate local water. Reptiles are not the only stars of this nocturnal adventure. Calls of the nightjar (a whippoorwill cousin) and frogs echo over the still water. Bats snatch insects from the sky or dive to the water’s surface for a quick drink. Definitely an experience to remember!
Day 8: Transfer to the International airport to await your flight home.
